Heidi, a figurative, abstract painter rooted in gestural drawing, explores the transformative nature of movement through her art. Her dynamic practice spans drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, and installations.

Heidi’s work, characterized by expressive lines, rhythmic compositions, and the interplay of figurative and abstract forms, often draws inspiration from diverse cultural influences as well as historical movements in art’s rich vernacular.

She employs materials such as charcoal, oil, acrylic, on paper, metals and clay, creating intuitive, improvisational pieces that engage viewers through their gestural energy and thematic explorations of beauty, movement, and environment.

Born in New York and raised on the south shore of Long Island, Heidi was awarded a full-tuition merit scholarship to Pratt Institute, where she studied drawing, painting, sculpture, and printmaking. Her artistic journey has also included a tenure as an art director for L’Oréal and a passionate commitment to arts education, advocating for the integration of art and the creative process within communities and youth education.

Heidi’s artwork has been showcased in numerous exhibitions, including Female Figuratively at OMSA Gallery, the Flatiron Prow Art Space, A.I.R Gallery, Aljira Center for Contemporary Art, Lockwood Gallery, Chris Davidson Gallery, Gibbs Museum, Mindy Ross Gallery, Storm King Tavern, Albert Wisner Library Sculpture Park, and The Other Art Fair in both Brooklyn and Los Angeles.

Heidi’s pieces are part of several public, private, and corporate collections, including the ACLU, The Carlyle Hotel, HBO, Orange County Trust, Orange Regional Medical Center, Thang Long TLE Group in Vietnam, Hotel Avalon in Beverly Hills, The Hyatt Regency, and the Cheval Gloucester Park Hotel in London.

Currently based in the Hudson Valley, Heidi works and lives with her husband and two sons, continuing to inspire and engage us all through her multifaceted artistic endeavors and infectious spirit of creativity.

Working across a broad range of mediums and materials, my rhythmic compositions are composed of colored figurative abstract forms. I work in charcoal, oil and acrylic on paper, canvas, and clay, focusing on figural abstraction. Movement is both part of my process and product. The female remains the focus. She is a vessel, a vehicle, and reflection of our times. Improvisation, intuition, and impulse is essential to my process.

Recurring themes include beauty, the female figure, movement, dance, environment, and purpose. I am inspired by moments from my own life and elements from historical paintings that resonate with society’s current and future timelines. I use rhythm as a visual language and my movements are mirrored in the work’s gestural qualities beyond the borders of the canvas.

The folding process is something I have explored with numerous materials. Just as we can reinvent ourselves, I mend, repair, and reconstruct compositions by folding, unfolding, and refolding the subject’s form, taking on new material presence. When turned, the figures suggest different emotional stories, and offer a 3-dimensional perspective of negative space. The process entails revealing, both literally and figuratively. I work often in repetition and sequence to create a rhythm, and visual metaphor. Each new iteration supports an over-arching movement while focusing on transition and transformation, chance, and process.
