Sofía Balut Páez, born May 19, 1991, in Uruguay and Barcelona-based, is a highly regarded young artist whose creative journey is deeply rooted in her lineage and in self-discovery through her identity as a woman, mother, daughter, wife…

She walks on solid ground as her grandfather was the renowned and beloved Latin American artist, Carlos Páez Vilaró, known and loved in all Latin America as widely as Picasso was to the world.

Demonstrating exceptional artistic talent from a young age, particularly in the realm of Cubism, Sofia’s life experiences in countries like Spain, Italy, the US, and Uruguay have significantly influenced her artistic vision. Her role as a mother has enriched her narrative and infused her work with dedication and to serve as an example.

I was born and raised in an artistic environment, deeply influenced by my grandfather, the renowned Carlos Páez Vilaró, and my aunt, Ago Páez Vilaró, both acclaimed artists. As a self-taught artist, my learning developed organically, nurtured by the family environment that gave me the freedom to explore and create from an early age. Art has always been my refuge and an essential form of communication.

My style is within the framework of cubism, to which I infuse a contemporary approach, which could be called Neo-Cubism. My work seeks to decompose reality to offer new perspectives, where form and space are reorganized in geometric compositions. Echoes of great masters such as Paul Cézanne, Juan Gris, Picasso and Van Gogh are present in my work, but with a personal vision, focused on themes of personal liberation, empowerment and love.

My pieces tend to focus on the female figure, a symbol of strength and transformation. Each is a reflection of a woman’s inner power and the process of self-discovery. Throughout my career, this representation has evolved into a deeper narrative, where I explore concepts such as union, the power of the mind and the importance of connecting with oneself.

I work primarily with oils, which allows me to create with a richness of color and texture that brings out the emotion behind each figure. Over the years, I have also explored ceramic sculpture, developing a series that addresses emotional and spiritual liberation. These sculptures have been exhibited in internationally renowned galleries and museums.

My current artistic practice remains focused on expanding my message globally. I aspire for my work to not only be an aesthetic expression, but also a tool for transformation and reflection for the viewer. My long-term vision is to create an interactive museum in various locations around the world, inspired by Casapueblo, where art is a vehicle for connection and change.

My work has been presented in international exhibitions in prestigious institutions, such as the Louvre in Paris, the European Museum of Modern Art (MEAM) in Barcelona and the Museum of Premiá de Dalt in Barcelona. I have also participated in art fairs and biennials worldwide. In 2023, I was awarded first prize in a competition organized by Cultura Inquieta and Therapyside in Madrid, with my triptych Introspection, a project that included three works from the Liberation series, accompanied by an audiovisual video that described the triptych as living art, going through the five emotions: love, sadness, joy, fear and anger.

This year I have the honor of participating in the First Biennial of Women Artists of the World in London, a new chapter in my artistic career.

My purpose is to leave a legacy that inspires reflection, empowerment and spiritual awakening, building a space where art invites union and personal growth.
